💎 Rare items : G.I. Joe and Action Force: figures of the 1980s

The story

G.I. Joe is a military toy line launched by Hasbro in 1964. After a six-year break it returned in 1982 as 3¾-inch figures under the name "A Real American Hero", with a new adversary: Cobra. The first 1982 figures, with straight arms, are the most sought after. In Europe the range was sold as Action Force: the prices quoted here relate to the American market for Hasbro figures.

Why these prices?

  • The 1982 straight-arm figures are the most sought after, according to the price records below.
  • The 1982 Cobra Commander was sold only by mail order: its "Mickey Mouse" version (badly drawn insignia) is a collecting classic.
  • Figures graded by AFA (Action Figure Authority) and on their original card are worth far more than loose ones.
  • Sets and playsets (Cobra Missile Command Headquarters, Sears exclusive) are rare complete: the original cardboard deteriorates.
