💎 Rare items : Esoteric and astrology books: manuscripts and rare editions

The story

In the field of magic and esoteric books, the French reference is Éliphas Lévi (1810-1875) and his Dogme et rituel de la haute magie, published in two volumes between 1854 and 1856 and translated into English by A. E. Waite in 1896. The "Keys of Solomon" and grimoires are the other great pole: magic manuals attributed to King Solomon, known mostly through manuscripts. We found only one priced, sourced sale: an Italian manuscript of the Keys of Solomon.

Why these prices?

  • The rarity of the individual copy weighs heavily: "very few known copies in Italian", notes the auction house Finarte about this manuscript.
  • First editions of Éliphas Lévi's texts (1854-1856) and the enlarged 1861 second editions are sought after, but we found no published sale price to cite.
  • For a book in your collection, the age of the edition and the condition of the binding matter more than the title.
  • Manuscript sales are rare: to value an old book, compare with results from Drouot or Christie's, or ask a specialist bookseller.
